Methodology
This page documents the live lawn mowing cost calculator formula, every material default shown in the tool, source labels, capture dates, rounding, validation, and deterministic examples. Defaults are not market claims.
Formula
- mowing_low = max(minimum_visit_low, area_sq_ft × mowing_rate_low_per_sq_ft × difficulty_multiplier)
- mowing_high = max(minimum_visit_high, area_sq_ft × mowing_rate_high_per_sq_ft × difficulty_multiplier)
- add_ons_low / add_ons_high = sum of selected add-on low/high
- per_visit_low = mowing_low + add_ons_low
- per_visit_high = mowing_high + add_ons_high
- monthly_low = per_visit_low × visits_per_month
- monthly_high = per_visit_high × visits_per_month
- per_sq_ft_low = per_visit_low ÷ area_sq_ft
- per_sq_ft_high = per_visit_high ÷ area_sq_ft
Rounding
Arithmetic keeps full precision internally. Displayed currency uses two decimal places. Per-square-foot values display to four decimal places.
Validation
The calculator rejects blank, non-numeric, zero, or negative area; low values greater than matching highs; non-positive frequency or difficulty; and non-finite or display-unsafe results. Invalid input is never silently replaced.
